BlogTO.com : The Ticketmaster Alternative

... So what's a disgruntled purveyor of events to do? If you're Adil Dhalla, you take matters into your own hands. The end result is a service called TicketTrunk, launched in 2007, with which the Toronto resident hopes fix some of Ticketmaster's most glaring flaws.

"We are simply a self service online box office, and it's intended to be affordable and easy for anyone, anywhere," explains Dhalla.

"The end result of what I think we'd like to do is the democratization of the online ticket industry." ... read more

Press Release: Tickettrunk 3.0 unveils at just the right time for event organizers

In November of 2008, Tickettrunk's founders took some time to consider the success they had since the site's public launch a year earlier.

"We high fived for roughly an hour before our arms got tired and we decided to share our ideas of what our next steps were going to be," Adil explained. "We quickly found that we had a lot of work to do... read more

"Adil and I have maintained our vision to create a good company by doing good things for people but the path to getting there is not predictable," said Kevin. "An increasingly competitive ticket industry and the economy have challenged us to adapt as have the various things we've learned about what works and doesn't work over the past year."

On looks alone, the site has a stunningly sharp and modern feel to it but what will excite most fans is how much more the site shouts "simplicity" right from the Main page. Large buttons, no advertisements and a very evident focus on keeping only what's necessary has allowed the site to evolve from user-friendly to user-best-friendly. In addition, rather than calculating percentage fees and waiting for your check to come sometime after your event, the company now charges an industry low "one-buck-a-ticket" model and deposits event money straight into users' Paypal accounts.

With the economy increasing the burdens for event organizers, both of these decisions were made to ensure that selling event tickets remains affordable and easy. Asking ticket sellers to create Paypal accounts initially concerned Kevin and Adil but they cited the success of Ebay (another company that requires the use of Paypal) as evidence that people are comfortable and willing to have a virtual bank account.

"This next year is going to be massive for us," concluded Adil. "We've got some Goliaths to battle and some lofty goals but it's easy to have this anything-is-possible demeanor when you look at the site and how far it's come."

Tickettrunk Co-Founder Launches Creativity Killed the Recession
